My Approach

I provide mental health support in a safe, welcoming, non-clinical space where you can feel free to be yourself.

My approach is personalised and centred on your whole well-being, combining insights from neuroscience with a variety of counselling modalities, always guided by a deep respect of your unique life story.

My aim is to journey with my clients, meeting them where they are in their lives, and to draw on the most appropriate counselling modalities while continually tailoring our work together to their evolving needs throughout the counselling journey.

With a background in Pastoral Care, I also bring an understanding of spiritual dimension of health, supporting not only your emotional and psychological well-being but also your sense of meaning and connection.

This blend of evidence-based, holistic, and spiritual care practices allows me to offer a well-rounded approach to healing and personal growth.

My commitment is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves compassionate support an guidance as they navigate life’s challenges.

Counselling Modalities

  • A trauma-informed approach recognises the widespread impact of trauma and ensures that therapy is conducted in a way that promotes safety, trust, and empowerment. This means understanding how trauma affects the brain, body, and emotions, and adapting counselling strategies so clients feel secure and respected.

In practice, this involves pacing sessions according to the client’s readiness, providing choice, and focusing on building resilience and self-regulation before processing difficult memories.

  • EMDR is a structured therapy used to help you process distressing memories, traumatic experiences, and negative self-beliefs.

It works by using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while recalling specific events, helping the brain reprocess the memory so it no longer triggers overwhelming emotions or physical reactions.

EMDR is particularly effective for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, depression, anxiety linked to past experiences.

It is not about erasing memories, but about reducing their emotional intensity.

  • ACT focuses on helping you live a meaningful life guided by your values, even in the presence of difficult thoughts and emotions. Instead of avoiding or fighting internal experiences, ACT teaches mindfulness skills to increase psychological flexibility.

Through this approach, you will learn to identify personal values, take committed action, and let go of struggles that keep you stuck.

ACT is helpful for anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and adjusting to life transitions.

  • CBT is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you to understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. By identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and replacing them with more balanced perspectives, clients can reduce emotional distress and improve daily functioning.

CBT is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, stress, and behavioural challenges.

In sessions, we work together to develop practical coping strategies and problem-solving skills that you can apply in everyday life.

  • DBT is a skills-based approach designed to help you manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distress without harmful behaviours.

DBT combines acceptance strategies with change-focused techniques, teaching skills in four main areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

This approach is highly beneficial for people experiencing emotional dysregulation, borderline personality traits, self-harm urges, or chronic interpersonal difficulties.

  • Family Systems Therapy views individuals as part of a larger relational system. It explores how patterns of communication, roles, and behaviours within families influence each person’s well-being.

This approach can help resolve conflicts, improve understanding between family members, and address generational patterns that may be affecting current relationships.

It is particularly effective for family conflict, parenting challenges, and situations where changes in one person’s behaviour impact the whole family.

  • PBS builds on the principles of ABA but emphasises improving quality of life while reducing behaviours of concern.

PBS involves identifying the reasons behind a behaviour, addressing environmental or social triggers, and teaching alternative, more positive skills.

It is a compassionate, person-centred approach that works collaboratively with clients (and families where appropriate) to create supportive environments and lasting change.

    Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

ABA is a research-based approach that focuses on understanding how behaviour works and how it is affected by the environment. By using positive reinforcement and structured interventions, ABA helps teach new skills, reduce challenging behaviours, and improve independence.

It is widely used to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities, but can also benefit anyone seeking behavioural change.
